Albam Cipher Calculator
In Albam the 22 letters are split into two halves of 11. The first letter of the first half is exchanged with the first letter of the second half, and so on.
The Albam table
| א ↔ ל | ב ↔ מ | ג ↔ נ | ד ↔ ס |
| ה ↔ ע | ו ↔ פ | ז ↔ צ | ח ↔ ק |
| ט ↔ ר | י ↔ ש | כ ↔ ת |
How it works
- First half: Aleph to Kaf. Second half: Lamed to Tav.
- Aleph↔Lamed, Bet↔Mem, Gimel↔Nun – hence the name AL-BM.
- Each letter has exactly one partner, and the exchange is symmetric.
Sources
- The Baraita of the 32 Rules (Rule 29): "ben Tav'el" in Isaiah 7:6 is read in Albam as "Remalya" – Tet becomes Resh, Bet becomes Mem, Aleph becomes Lamed.
- The Talmud, Shabbat 104a, expounds the alphabet in Albam.
- The Chida (Petach Einayim) attributes Albam to Rabbi Akiva.
